Text - Gluttony4 1308 points . 2 months ago My old dog came from somewhere abusive, I'm almost certain. In particular, drawing attention to the palm of your hand would freak him out. He'd run and flail if anyone tried to touch him. Never bit or tried to fight back, but it was clear that people scared him. My family kinda gave up on him pretty quickly. They'd lock him in a bedroom because they didn't want the little dog that panics at people making a scene around them. I remember spending weeks o

Text - throwuhway9 4335 points 2 months ago Every time my dog is scared, he lays with me. Even if I'm sleeping and in another room, he will find me and come in my room and get his face super close to mine and lay on top of me. Out of the 4 other people in the house, He comes to find me for comfort. That's how I know he trusts me.

Text - StuStutterKing 203 points 2 months ago My cat climbs up on my shoulders whenever he's scared. Most of my shirts and hoodies have trails from him climbing me.

Text - esta_ruka 2144 points 2 months ago A couple of years ago I lost my indoor cat. I would go out and look for her every early morning of the week she was missing. Got super bummed out and had basically given way to thinking the worst had happened and she was dead somewhere. I read on the internetz that leaving a recently worn piece of clothing helps animals sniff their way back home. So I left my stinkiest shirt in the backyard hopeful but trying to stifle the feeling. Next morning I was get

Text - Badgermatic 1125 points 2 months ago My dog had a puppy... Just one issue, combined with being an unusual pregnancy for them, not a defect with the puppy) big puppy and it died just before birth (this was a vet She then adopted a toy as her puppy and kept it near her. for a few weeks. She let me hold it, touch the toy, but snarled at the other dog we had when he would get near it. She trusted me around her 'puppy'.

Text - Violent_Testicles 984 points 2 months ago My Malamute shows it when I'm not around. Whenever I have to leave for a few weeks at a time, my wife tell me how our Mal seems depressed, becomes less playful or interested in things, sleeps on my side of the bed or usual spot on the couch, curls up on my sweatshirts, etc

Text - blazarquasar 2352 points 2 months ago When I was living down south, my cat managed to get outside and fall into this little ditch with stagnant water in the backyard. I happened to see him emerging from the ditch and went out to get him, and as soon as he saw me he began running to me-scared and soaked with gross ditch water. I scooped him up and put him in the garage sink and he let me give him a bath to get the muck off. He didn't like it, but he also didn't fight at all because he knew

Text - oneshockingfish 676 points . 2 months ago When I was quite a bit younger, my cat got lost in the ventilation system while we were having our kitchen remodeled. We tried for hours to get him to come out, but no luck. Food didn't work, treats didn't work, calling his name didn't work. Eventually I just broke down crying by the open vent and, lo and behold, my boy comes running and crawls out to comfort me. Truly a wonderful cat.

Text - KFiggNewton 5744 points 2 months ago Ugh. The thing that made me realize i probably just got another freaking dog. I have three dogs, ages 10, 13, 14. We don't want more until these are gone-they're on expensive old-dog food, we just bought a house...not in a "puppy-getting" place. Well, this neighborhood is all farms, and way out in the middle of nowhere, so dump dogs. There's no animal control. No leash laws. Nobody neuters, that sort of shebang. Didn't take long, we learned who is who.

Text - deegan79 3338 points 2 months ago Not me, but my dad and his American Mastiff. Dad had a knee replacement about a year after we rescued Duke, our Mastiff. After the surgery, Dad was instructed to utilize a machine to slowly flex his knee a few times a day. When he wasn't using the machine, he was also instructed to keep his knee in a neutral position. The first day home, he was struggling to find a neutral position that didn't also hurt like hell. While Dad is fighting with some pillows,

Text - -Its-A-Trap- 585 points 2 months ago My dog loves going to my parents house. It's like Disney world for him. They have a pool and a half dozen "cousins" (my parents dogs) for him to play with He plays and plays over there but when I go to leave via the front door he always beats me to it. He doesn't want me to leave him.

Text - razmonkey 566 points 2 months ago My rabbit usually keeps to himself. One day I was going through a hard time after losing someone crying and the whole bit. My bunny hopped into my room (not typical), jumped upon my bed, and laid on my stomach to comfort me. Such a sweet creature

Text - almostindefinitely 217 points 2 months ago I have two cats who are very affectionate. One is more toward my SO and the other toward me. The one toward me follows me often. We have a system of her sitting in front of me as I'm standing up for me to catch her mid jump, so she can be on my shoulders as I walk around, or carry her like a child. The time that really got me is when I took my cat along the trails behind our house. Yes, I walk my cats. Because she likes to be where I am and is re

Text - ur8695 1035 points 2 months ago To be fair, it wasn't even my pet. I was leaving my girlfriends house and there was this little kitten tucked right by the door terrified. It sprinted inside and up the stairs watching us at the top. The poor little thing was way too young to be out and had been attacked by another cat by the looks of it. I went to the top of the stairs and the poor thing was so scared. But after a few minutes of wide eyes, nervous twitching and a lot of sniffing and lickin

Text - Loktharion 1441 points 2 months ago When I walk by my cat, we make eye contact, he meows; then his feet start pawing at the air, and he gives me a slow blink. I love my Noodles.

Text - rmurph22 2310 points 2 months ago There was a large pit bull in my neighborhood that, due to old age, had started attacking small dogs. One day I was on a walk with my Chihuahua (https://imgur.com/a/jEyjW) and this dog got out. It bolted down the street right for us and, without any hesitation, my little buddy turned towards the charging pit bull, ready to protect me. I grabbed him, shielded him, and saved him from the massive pit bull, but I will never forget how he was ready to give his

Text - Lavrentiiy 501 points 2 months ago My parents have a rescue cat. She's so cute, it's unreal. They don't know much about her background, but she was abandoned and it's pretty clear she had a traumatic incident where she was trapped in a small environment. She was very, very jumpy when they first got her, and very anxious. I visit for the first time, and I know that I'll probably have to just not take it personally if kitty doesn't like me. I'm good with animals (even have a background in r

Text - Czndra60 110 points 2 months ago My cat had gotten out and was pregnant. I set up nesting boxes all over the house so she could have her choice. One night i woke up and she was nestled behind my bent knees. I reached down to pet her and touched something warm and wet. It was a kitten. She got in bed with me to give birth. My husband moved to the couch and I stayed up with her as she birthed 4 more kittens. She stayed in the bed for 3 days and then moved to a nest in the closet. Ruined our

Text - SpaceDave83 239 points 2 months ago A stray cat got sneaky and got in my house without me or my cat noticing. Apparently, it did not notice us either. When I saw the cat, tried to get it before a cat fight broke out, but it completely freaked out and hid under my bed. My cat went under there to defend her territory, but called off the attack when she saw how scared the other cat was. After a few hours of keeping the house quiet to let the stray calm down, it ended up in my kitchen. But it

Text - chumbalumba 411 points : 2 months ago I was sitting on the couch and my partner came up behind me with a big cardboard tube and smashed it close to my head- I screamed out of surprise and our shelter dog we'd had for about 3 months leapt up on the couch beside me and started barking and growling at my partner. He chilled out as soon as he realised I was fine, but we had never even heard him bark until then, let alone growl. He trusts my partner more than that now though.

Text - OrneryPanduhh 519 points 2 months ago This one won't be popular, I'm already preparing myself for the onslaught. I had an Australian Shepherd mix very very well trained service dog who had recurring ear infections. I cleaned his ears frequently, but they're a common occurrence where I live, so they happened on occasion and some took time to cure/heal completely. an aural hematoma from shaking his During one particularly awful bout, he developed head furiously.
